When meeting Mr Gibbs for the first time about a problem knee, my first impression was of a very kind, caring, sympathetic and professional surgeon who puts his patients needs first. Following a full knee replacement just seven weeks ago, I am now well on the way to returning to a ‘normal’ life once again and in particular will be returning to tap dancing after a year. A huge thank you to Mr Gibbs. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Gibbs - and indeed I already have - he is a fabulous surgeon.

Finding out I had hip dysplasia and required a bilateral hip replacement at 40 years old was a huge shock. I met with Mr Gibbs who listened to my concerns, provided informed advice, answered my multiple of questions, and provided me with the confidence that he could give me my ‘pain free’ life back. He has a very calming and reassuring presence, that was especially important for me on the day of surgery. I also felt he went above and beyond as he came to check on my progress during my stay in hospital. Everything he has predicted has come true. I am now 3 months post surgery and so happy with the results. I have started to live my best and active life again and I can’t thank him enough. Mr Gibbs has my 100% recommendation for anyone needing a hip replacement (or two!).

James has been a colleague for many years so I knew I was in safe hands from the outset. That said, it is a different experience to be in the patient/doctor situation of course. James was that elusive combination of friendly and empathetic, whilst being clear and professional. He also made me feel very empowered about the decision to have one or both hips replaced at the same time. I personally felt one at a time was best for me though. Throughout the whole procedure it was clear the team work very much together, there was a feeling of calm which enabled me to feel completely confident that everything was running smoothly. I was discharged the next day (although I was very welcome to stay another night if needed), had a week of feeling a bit fragile of course, but I am now walking unaided and pain free 2 weeks post surgery. Who could ask for more than that?

Mr Gibbs performed both my hip replacement surgeries. I found him to be approachable, empathetic and professional; the advice he gave before, during and after each procedure was measured and reassuring. He has the unique ability to put you at ease at a very difficult time; I found the whole experience to be surprisingly straight forward! I shall always be grateful to Mr Gibbs and his brilliant team and of course the wonderful NHS service - thank you!

It was my lucky day to meet a former patient of Mr Gibbs who spoke so highly of him to me - just what I needed to hear as I had a very grotty arthritic left hip and could barely walk. I had a succinct, informative and very reassuring initial consultation with Mr Gibbs and I just felt instinctively that I was in very safe hands. The surgery itself has been highly successful and I am absolutely delighted to say that, after only three weeks post-op, I am progressing really well with my walking. Mr Gibbs has given me back the quality to my life that had been missing for many months, for which I am so grateful to him. I would not hesitate a nanosecond to go to see him again if I needed to.
